About 100 customers throughout New City, Nanuet, West Nyack and Congers lost power Tuesday afternoon due to strong winds knocking trees into power lines.
"It's characteristic of a high wind related event," said O&R Spokesman Mike Donovan.
A tree felled by strong winds in Nanuet blocked part of Grandview Ave and brought down live wires with it knocking out power to nearby residents. Clarkstown Police prevented traffic from using the road between Prospect Street and Nelson Street.
Other outages occurred on Larkspur Court and Summit Drive in New City, Sickletown Road in West Nyack and South Rockland Avenue in Congers. According to Donovan, all customers should have service restored by 5:30 p.m.
Rockland County is under a strong wind and heavy rain advisory issued by the National Weather Service and the possiblity of isolated tornadoes.
