Sinkhole On New Hempstead Road Repaired

A partial road collapse that occurred on westbound New Hempstead Road has been repaired.

A Rockland County Highway Department crew made emergency repairs on New Hempstead Road in New City on Thursday evening.  Clarkstown Police reported a partial road collapse or sinkhole occurred around 6:15 p.m.  Part of the westbound lane between Henry Street and Lombardi Drive was closed for about two hours and signalmen alternated two-way traffic in the eastbound lane.

Police said no vehicle damage or injuries were reported as a result of the road collapse. The westbound lane was completely reopened by 8:30 p.m.  That portion of New Hempstead Road is currently being reconstructed as part of a two year long project.  New Hempstead Road is being rebuilt from North Main Street to the Palisades Interstate Parkway.
