We will begin with a guided tour of Nature and the American Vision: The Hudson River School. This is the critically acclaimed exhibition which is back from a national tour. It includes forty-five iconic works, including Thomas Cole’s five-part series The Course of Empire and other masterworks by Cole, John F. Kensett, Albert Bierstadt, Jasper F. Cropsey, Asher B. Durand.
Benjamin Genocchio of the NY Times wrote: “Every now and then, an exhibition comes along that is so perfectly lovely that you want to shout its merits from the closest rooftop, or in this case mountain.”
Please note that this exhibition ends on February 21, 2013. Then we will have a delicious lunch provided by the catering staff of Caffe Storico. Following lunch, we will enjoy a guided tour of WWII & NYC. When World War II broke out, New York was a cosmopolitan, heavily immigrant city, whose people had real stakes in the war and strongly held opinions. WWII & NYC will explore the impact of the war on the metropolis, which played a critical role in the national war effort, and how the city was forever changed.
Installed throughout all floors of the New-York Historical Society, the exhibition will feature more than 300 objects, including artifacts, paintings, maps, photographs, posters, film footage, music, radio broadcasts, and newly recorded eyewitness accounts that document the most widespread, destructive, and consequential conflict in history. Finally, guests will have a little bit of extra time to review these exhibitions or visit other exhibitions in the museum.
