The Historical Society of Rockland County Invites You to Join Us for a Ramapo Hamlet “Walk Through History”

Time: Leaves the Ramapo Saltbox Environmental Research Center (ERC) at 10am
This is a two mile walk over level paved surface. 1.5 to 2 hours, with an opportunity for an extended visit at the Saltbox after the walk.
Admission is free; donations greatly appreciated!
Join us for a walk into yesteryear at the Ramapo Hamlet.
This is an opportunity to view a little known and very historic area of Rockland County, which has remained in large part unchanged.
Storyteller/environmental educator Chuck Stead will lead us, starting at the Ramapo Saltbox Environmental Research Center (ERC) on Torne Valley Road. We walk to Torne Brook Estate (last of the Ramapo Iron Baron's residencies), the Iron Works Site, the remaining structures in the Hamlet Community and return to the Saltbox. Hear Chuck's commentary on the Iron Works history, the Saltbox restoration, the Ramapo Well Field environmental remediation, and the nature of the hamlet community.
Arrive early for Limited parking!
Directions via Rt 59 west: turn right at the foot of Main St (railroad station area) and continue straight until the right turn onto Torne Valley Road, Hillburn, BEFORE the green steel bridge. Directions via the Thruway: exit 15A Sloatsburg / Suffern / Hillburn, go right off ramp, cross the green steel bridge, take first left onto Torne Valley Rd Hillburn. From Torne Valley Road: pass the large Rec Center on left and continue to the Saltbox on the left.
