Go Red For Women Luncheon

The American Heart Association
(AHA) announced that tickets are still available for the Tri-County Go Red For
Women Luncheon on November 1st at West Hills Country Club in Middletown, NY.
The event supports the research and education programs of the AHA.

 Nationally recognized comedian and
“laughter therapist” Diane Jordan will be featured speaker. Jordan is a
stand-up comedian and author of A Wife’s
little Instruction Book, Your Survival Guide to Marriage Without Bloodshed!

She has been nominated by the American Comedy Awards as one of the Top Five
Female Comedians in the country and has appeared on The Dr. Oz Show, HBO,
Showtime and Comedy Central. Jordan will entertain the audience but also lend
her unique perspective on women and heart disease, as she lost her own mother
to heart disease and emphysema.

The annual Go Red For Women
Luncheon is a half-day of health and wellness education, empowerment and
transformation. It is part of the Go Red For Women’s national movement to fight
heart disease in women – their number one health threat. The Luncheon, serving
Orange, Rockland and Sullivan counties, features morning educational breakout lectures,
heart disease education, uplifting stories, silent auction, health-healthy
lunch and a keynote by Jordan.

Dr. Ainat Beniaminovitz and Dr. Judy Lin of ColumbiaDoctors of the
Hudson Valley will present the morning educational session, “In the Office,” an
insightful and lively physician/patient role play, highlighting the risks for
coronary heart disease, and how men and women risks and symptoms differ.

 Sister Fran Gorsuch  of Bon
Secours serves as chair of the 2013 Luncheon Chair. “Heart
disease alone is the leading cause of death for women in New York, accounting
for more than 26,000 female deaths in 2007. Stroke, the number three cause of
death, took another 3,700 women’s lives.” said Sister Gorsuch, “Women need to hear these startling
statistics so they don’t become one.”

 According
to a 2009 AHA study, 46% of women were unaware that heart disease is the
leading cause of death among women. The American
Heart Association’s Go Red For Women movement was created to raise awareness of
heart disease as the number one killer of women.

 The Go Red
For Women Luncheon is sponsored nationally by Macy’s and presented locally by
the Signature Sponsor, Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center, Bon Secours
Charity Health System. Other local sponsors include Greater Hudson Bank, Nice
Pak/PDI, Novartis, Ramapo Anesthesiologists, P.C., ColumbiaDoctors of the
