POMONA,
N.Y.,
Aug. 26, 2013 – Compassionate competitiveness will describe the
August 31st
Rockland Boulders game against the Newark Bears. For the first
time in its
history, Boulders players and coaches will be donning specially
designed pink
jerseys for “Pink in the Park” to raise awareness of breast
cancer. Pink has
become synonymous with the fight against breast and proceeds
from the game
benefit the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer to fund breast cancer
research and
access to care.

 “We are thrilled to help
bring local awareness
to this important cause and raise funds at the same time,”
Shawn Reilly,
EVP/General Manager of the Boulders, said. “The Boulders are
inviting all
breast cancer survivors and those in treatment throughout the
region to be our
guests – free of charge – at the August 31st game
against the Newark
Bears.”

Breast cancer is the most commonly
diagnosed form
of cancer in the world, with one woman diagnosed every three
minutes in the
U.S. alone.  It’s
also the
second leading cause of cancer death in women, exceeded only by
lung cancer.
The Avon Foundation for Women raises funds for breast
cancer research, access
to care and support services through events such as the Avon Walk for
Breast Cancer series.

Pink
chalk instead
of white will mark the foul lines in Provident Bank Park and the
first 1,000
fans will receive a free “Pink in the Park” logo T-shirt. Minute
Maid Pink
Lemonade and Mike’s Hard Pink Lemonade will be sold with
proceeds going to the
Avon Walk for Breast Cancer. Following the game fans wearing
pink will be
invited onto to the field to form a giant human pink ribbon –
the symbol of the
breast cancer cause. The Saturday evening skies will be lit up
with pink
fireworks to culminate Pink in the Park. For tickets and
additional
information, call 845-364-0009 or visit the box office at One
Provident Bank
Park Drive, Pomona, N.Y. or online at www.rocklandboulders.com.

Reilly said when John Eccleston of OpenGate Marketing
presented the “Pink in
the Park” idea to the Boulders, the club immediately embraced
it.

“We’d
like
to have a sea of pink fill the park during one of our last days
of our regular season
play to create local awareness for the Avon Foundation,” said
Reilly. As an
incentive, Reilly said that anyone wearing pink will receive a
$1 off their
game ticket price at the box office on the day of the game.

 Reilly added that “Pink in
the Park” could not
be possible without its premier sponsor Good Samaritan Regional
Medical
Center/The Center for Breast Health and other sponsors ALDI,
which just opened
a new grocery store in Stony Point; Palisades Mazda/Volvo,
Rockland Diagnostic
Imaging, Stop and Shop, Mid Rockland Imaging, Minute Maid Pink
Lemonade, Mike’s
Hard Pink Lemonade and OpenGate Marketing.

The
Rockland
Boulders/Newark Bears game on Saturday, Aug. 31st, starts at
6:30 p.m. Breast
cancer survivors and those in treatment must go to the Provident
Bank Park box
office to receive their free adult ticket – one per person.
Reilly said the
official “pink jerseys” worn by the Rockland Boulders and signed
by them will
be available for purchase through an online auction following
the game and
during the following weeks.  The
winners
will be announced at the team’s annual season ticket World
Series Party in
October. Proceeds from the auction will go to the Avon Walk for
Breast Cancer.
