STAC'S Art Therapy Club Presents: “Women Veterans: Beyond Betrayal”

presented by Val Sereno, MA, A.T.R.-BC, LCAT

Registration
begins at 6:30 p.m. and an experiential workshop will follow the
lecture. The event is free and open to the public.

The Women Veterans
art therapy group started in 2008 and is held at the School of Visual
Arts in New York. Through the creative process the women have been able
to discuss their negative experiences and mistreatment in the military.
The women strongly identify with being victims of betrayal. This
presentation explores the women veterans world, the cathartic benefit of
specific art materials, the processing of sexual trauma and relevant
cases studies.

Val Sereno, MA, ATR-BC, LCAT is on the
faculty of the MPS Art Therapy Department at the School of Visual Arts.
In addition, she is Coordinator of Special Programs and Projects. She
facilitated one of the first women veterans art therapy groups
addressing PTSD and military sexual abuse issues. Her extensive post
graduate work includes the EDCAS program (Eating Disorders, Compulsions
and Addictions) at the White Institute for Psychoanalysis and The
Creativity Seminar at Harvard in 2013. She developed an international
professional art therapy program in Avignon, France and has presented
her research internationally and nationally.
