Donors Flock To Blood Drive

About halfway through Tuesday’s blood drive in Clarkstown North High School’s library more than 25 people had donated with others going through the screening process.

Robin Friehling, who works for the New York Blood Center and organized the blood drive in memory of her son Jeremy, was pleased with the turnout.

“Very busy from the minute the doors opened,” she said. “We probably registered close to 40 at this point.  Of those more than 25 have been eligible to donate today.”

Dustin Hausner of New City said he is a regular blood donor.

“Every few months I try and donate,” he said.

Brian Winrow of Congers also donates frequently. He said he drives past the school every day and saw the signs for the blood drive.

Eight volunteers, both family members and friends wearing “Team Blood Drive” t-shirts, were escorting and assisting donors.

Friehling said she would consider making it an annual blood drive to remember her son who died last year.

“If the support is there and donating in memory of Jeremy is motivating people to do it, absolutely,” she said.
