ARC of Rockland 25th Annual Golf Classic

ARC of Rockland Celebrates Its 'Silver Anniversary' Golf Classic June 14

-- The Nonprofit to Honor Harold J. Peterson for His 25 Years of Chairmanship of the Golf Fund-raiser that Helps Rockland Residents with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities --

THIELLS, N.Y., May 5, 2010 – ARC of Rockland is inviting area golfers, businesses and families to help raise funds for persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities at the agency's 25th Annual Golf Classic, Monday, June 14, at the Philip J. Rotella Memorial Golf Course in Thiells, N.Y. Sponsorships and golfer registration is available online at www.arcofrockland.org.

To commemorate the Annual Golf Classic's "silver anniversary" this year, ARC of Rockland will pay a much deserved tribute to Harold J. Peterson, a SVP for Provident Bank, who is credited with creating the ARC of Rockland Golf Classic in 1986 and has served as its only chairman for 25 years.

ARC of Rockland Executive Director Karyl Caplan said that under Harold's tenure the Golf Classic has raised more than $800,000 over the past 24 years, which has been used to renovate residences, purchase computers, and fund construction of two state-of-the-art playgrounds, an indoor therapeutic swimming pool and new classrooms at Prime Time for Kids Early Learning Center in New City.

"We are forever grateful for Harold's heartfelt dedication to ARC of Rockland, for his years of service as chair of the Golf Classic, for his boundless energy, sincerity and willingness to roll up his sleeves to get the job done," said Caplan. "With unwavering commitment, Harold has helped ARC spread the word that people with intellectual and other developmental disabilities are people with capabilities."

The $250 per person fee includes a complete golf package of breakfast, course refreshments, cart and a round of 18 on the beautiful course, plus a spectacular steak and lobster afternoon dinner and awards, gifts and prizes. The shotgun format starts at 10 a.m., with breakfast and practice starting at 8:45 a.m. Golfers will have a chance to win a car courtesy of Newburgh Toyota via a hole-in-one contest. Provident Bank is the Masters Sponsor.

For golf and/or sponsorship inquiries, contact Barbara Carlucci at 845-267-2500 ext. 3118 or register online at www.arcofrockland.org. Non-golfers are welcome to help honor Harold Peterson and support ARC by attending the afternoon "surf & turf dinner" at 3 p.m. Dinner tickets are $100 each.
