"Vaccination is the primary method for preventing flu and its complications. There is plenty of flu vaccine available, and Rockland residents should not have any difficulty getting vaccinated this year," said Dr. Joan H. Facelle, Rockland County Commissioner of Health.
The 2010-2011 flu vaccine will protect against three different flu viruses that are likely to cause illness this season: an H3N2 virus, an influenza B virus and the H1N1 virus. Everyone 6 months of age and older should get vaccinated against the flu.

"I hope that Rockland residents take this proactive step to help protect their health," stated Rockland County Executive C. Scott Vanderhoef. "Taking advantage of these vaccines early in the flu season can really make a difference."

As the Department of Health receives more shipments of the vaccine, additional seasonal flu clinics will be scheduled. Flu vaccine is readily available at other sites in the county, such as pharmacies or health care providers.
