TO HOLD 5TH ANNUAL DANCE-A-THON
Friday, MARCH 30, 2012, 7:30 PM – 11:00 PM
Open to All High School Students

NEW CITY, NY– United Hospice of Rockland (UHR) teen group, Youth for Hospice (YFH), will hold its fifth annual Dance-A-Thon Friday, March 30, 2012, from 7:30 PM-11:00 PM at Albertus Magnus High School, 798 Route 304 in Bardonia. The event is open to all high school students and proceeds benefit United Hospice of Rockland. (The snow date is Saturday, March 31). Last year’s event drew over 300 students from 16 area high schools and raised more than $11,000.  

All high school students are welcome. Teens raise money by asking friends, family and neighbors to support them as they dance to raise funds for UHR.  A minimum of $25 in sponsorships is requested.

Prizes will be awarded to students who raise the most in sponsorships. There will be a DJ, raffle, t-shirts for all and complimentary food and beverages. In addition all participants earn community service hours.

This year, raffle prizes include:  a Carvel gift card, Starbucks basket, Cookie Girl basket, Yogurt Sensations gift cards, Rockland Boulders tickets, Glaze gift certificate, and 16 Handles gift certificate.

Students are encouraged to pre-register by mailing their forms to United Hospice of Rockland, 11 Stokum Lane, New City, NY 10956. In a written statement, Lisa Denburg announced that the event is open to all high school students who want to “dance the night away while raising money for United Hospice of Rockland.”   She said, “We are asking that community members help notify teens about the YFH Dance-A-Thon. Youth for Hospice was founded in 2008 ago by twelve sophomores at Clarkstown North High School in New City.  Those girls have since graduated and now attend colleges including Duke, Tufts, University of Pennsylvania, Emory and Syracuse.  The legacy they left behind continues to grow and the current membership of Youth For Hospice is comprised of boys and girls, freshmen to seniors, and has expanded to include students from several area high schools.  Two satellite groups of students from Tappan Zee High School and Nyack High School were formed in Fall 2011.

Members of YFH assist at many of United Hospice of Rockland’s ongoing programs and events, including Hugs for Hospice, the Annual Walkathon, Trees of Life, Spring Gala, Africa Hospice Project and  blood drives.  Some members volunteer in the office as well.

United Hospice of Rockland (UHR) serves as a resource for palliative care, bereavement support, and information about end of life issues.
