Clarkstown District Placed On AP District Honor Roll

The Clarkstown Central School District earned a place on the Fourth Annual AP District Honor Roll.  The College Board announced Clarkstown joined 476 other school districts from across the United States and Canada on the list. The honor roll recognizes districts for increasing access to AP® course work and maintaining or increasing the percentage of students earning scores of 3 or higher on AP Exams. 

According to the College Board, “Reaching these goals indicates that these districts are successfully identifying motivated, academically prepared students who are likely to benefit from rigorous AP course work.” 

Three years of data from Advanced Placement (AP) courses are evaluated before a district can be added to the honor roll. The criteria requires:

  • Increased participation/access to AP by at least four percent in large districts, at least six percent in medium districts, and at least 11 percent in small districts;
  • Increased or maintained the percentage of exams taken by African American, Hispanic/Latino, and American Indian/Alaska Native students, and;
  • Improved performance levels when comparing the percentage of students in 2013 scoring a 3 or higher to those in 2011, unless the district has already attained a performance level at which more than 70 percent of its AP students are scoring a 3 or higher.

The Haverstraw-Stony Point School District was the only other Rockland County school district to earn the distinction.
