Scholarship Fund Created In Best Friend’s Memory

Jason Horowitz of New City launched a scholarship in the memory of Chris Mejia, a Monmouth University student who died last year. The two were roommates, and best friends. Chris was Jason's “Big” brother in their fraternity.

"The purpose of this charity is to raise enough money for the endowment (self-funded) of the Christopher A. Mejia Scholarship at the Monmouth University School of Business," according to Horowitz.

People can donate to the scholarship fund on GoFundMe here.

"This scholarship in Chris' memory will be awarded on a yearly basis to a worthy student who has the special attributes Chris possessed," Horowitz said. "Someone who can carry on."

A candlelight vigil was held at the university on  Tuesday night to remember the one year anniversary of his death. About 175 people attended the tribute.
