Hansoo wanted his Eagle Scout project to be enjoyed by students and staff at The Birchwood School. The graduating senior arranged to build three wooden benches and held a garage sale to raise money.
Hansoo wanted to build the benches “because I feel that the project will be beneficial for the school.”
The benches set in cement join an older fourth bench in a grassy area behind the school in West Nyack. Hansoo with the help of volunteers worked on them over the course of several weeks finishing on May 11.

“I had many workdays in a row,” said Hansoo. “I mostly had them on a Sunday.”
He is a member of New City Troop 97 and has several merit badges to complete before he officially reaches the rank of Eagle Scout.
