Honoring Tony Soprano?

Upon hearing the news of the passing of James Gandolfini, my first reaction was shock. Another actor who has left is way to early. My condolences go to his family and his son who will have to live without a father and the traumatic memories of the night his father died as he was the one who found him.

James was a local man from nearby Park Ridge who never forgot where he came from.  People quoted reacting to his passing had only good things about him.

His image will live on as it does for most actors and people in Hollywood who have gone before him.   He will not be forgotten.  This is one reason why I have lost even more respect for NJ governor Chris Christie.

Governor Christie has signed an executive order stating that on Monday the flags at all state buildings shall fly at half mast out of respect for James.   To me this is a slap in the face to all of our brave men and women who gave all for this country. By bestowing the same honor on an actor, diminishes the whole idea of lowering the flag for those who have earned that honor.

Many of us in this nation need to get our priorities straight. Society holds up high those in the spotlight, often just for the reason that there is so much focus on their daily lives.  Case in point, the entire Kardashian family.  In fact we should refocus on true heroes.
Imagine if we gave more respect to our men and women who have served this great nation  as opposed to those who entertain us or play professional sports.

Governor Christie’s choice of honoring a man who played a mafia gangster on television is wrong.  If he really wants to become President, he should not have signed that executive order.  As a commander in chief, the first priority should be taking care of and honoring those under his or her command.
