Local Educators Participate in Google's NYC "Reboot" 2013

With increasing frequency, educators in our region are reaching out to each other and collaborating on how best to engage the current generation of learners.

On Friday, April 12, a group of educators from Clarkstown, North Rockland, Scarsdale, and Irvington school districts joined several dozen others from around the country at Google’s New York headquarters.  The purpose of this full day experience was  to learn the company’s road map for the next three months, a road map which includes major enhancements.  More and more, educators in our region are reaching out to each other and collaborating on how best to engage the current generation of learners.

Some of the demonstrations by Google’s innovative educational team drew applause from the group and underscored the company’s ongoing commitment to continuously innovate and improve the way teachers and students communicate, collaborate and learn without boundaries.

Highlights included a presentation by Zach Yeskel, a Google project manager who demonstrated the benefits his team is bringing to schools via Google+.

Though our educators are not permitted to share much of what the near future holds just yet due to required non-disclosure agreements, they are able to use the information to plan and make decisions for how these emerging technologies can further engage our learners.

During the day, participants had the opportunity to meet face to face with others with whom they meet regularly on-line in common personal learning networks.  It is impressive to experience the energy and synergy of these forward thinking and enthusiastic educators collaborating on ways to improve current learning opportunities and create new ones.  Such work is essential in order to develop each student’s potential, meet the required common standards,  yet unleash the creative energies and thinking that are necessary to succeed and meaningfully participate in the world they are inheriting.

Some of the innovative learning techniques that our teachers include in their lessons will be featured at the CCSD First Annual Technology and Engaged Learners celebration.  This event will take place at Felix Festa Middle School on April 29, 2013 from 6:00-8:00 pm.
