The Final Word (for now) Regarding Our Incredible Fourth Graders

The response has been overwhelmingly positive, and I would be remiss if I didn't end the week with one final post related to the topic.

Earlier this week I wrote a post that highlighted our fourth grade students' use of netbook computers and the recently installed wireless network in the fourth grade wing in each school.  The response has been overwhelmingly positive, and I would be remiss if I didn't end the week with one final post related to the topic.

Our fourth grade team of teachers at Bardonia Elementary School has shared some of the work their students have been doing this year.  Already they have used this technology for interactive websites, Schoology discussions (essentially a "closed" Facebook-like tool), and research. The team of teachers commented that they "have used interactive sites to dissect the owl pellet, learn more about the digestive tract (BrainPop Jr.), and work with portion sizes for nutrition. Students have researched using Grolier Encyclopedia and Searchasaurus. They recently created interview articles using Microsoft Publisher (attached are a few)."

As the second half of the year approaches, it will be interesting to learn what our fourth graders do next!  As the team from Bardonia commented, "The Netbooks are a great piece of technology for us to have, however some projects are difficult to use Netbooks because there is not a full class set.  We really appreciate the technology."
