A Day By Any Other Number

Valentine's Day and numerically significant dates are popular wedding days. Please share your thoughts and experiences on a very special wedding day!

With Valentine’s Day fast approaching, I thought it would be interesting to reflect on the popularity of numerically special days and holidays as the choice for a couple’s wedding day. Last November 11th, (11/11/11) I officiated four couple’s wedding ceremonies. Six ceremonies on Valentine’s Day 2011. No weddings on Saint Patrick’s Day. Go figure. I was asked to conduct a ceremony on Christmas Day, but I had the good sense to decline and keep myself out of the doghouse that evening.

Valentine’s Day is obviously a romantic day and having your anniversary on that day will certainly make it all the more romantic. Other days with numerical significance may be perceived as lucky. One of the couples I married on November 11th told me they were going to play that number in the Pick 4 Lottery. I hope they remember me when they win! It certainly is a good thing for the groom to have a memorable date for their anniversary. Easy to remember numbers makes it very hard to forget your wedding anniversary.

I have also met people who wanted to get married on one of their birthdays. I’m not sure how I would feel about that. I personally like to spread out the celebratory days throughout the year. I’m not sharing my birthday with anyone! Of course that’s just me, other people may feel differently and in the end it’s whatever makes you happy that matters. A marriage that was meant to last will survive and flourish regardless of when it officially began.

Did you or someone you know get married on a holiday or numerically significant day? Please share your experiences in the comments below. Perhaps your insight might be of use to a couple planning their wedding day.  There is lots of time left to plan your December 12th (12/12/12) wedding day! Marriage Licenses and the scheduling of marriage ceremonies are available at the Clarkstown Town Clerk’s Office.
