Jason M. Hruscik 5th Annual Memorial Softball Tourney and Vendor Fair

It had to be about three years ago when I met Kathy Hruscik at a local Starbucks. We were connected by The New York Organ Donor Network. Our conversation began with us swapping stories. I was the lucky heart transplant recipient and she had lost her son who happened to be an organ donor. As I listened, she explained how her son Jason, a young, fit school teacher in the Bronx, died suddenly in his sleep. His heart failed him. I noticed Kathy never became emotional during this meeting. It was as if fate had connected us. My belief is she sees a bit of Jason in me. Since then, our families have grown close and we both spread the word of how organ donation truly works. I can't imagine losing a child and there's not much I won't do for the Hrusciks. It is because of people like Jason and other donors, I get the chance to go on living.
