Ramapo Stadium: Losing Money and Raising Taxes

How is the Provident Bank Park in Ramapo faring after nearly three seasons?

The stadium is undoubtedly losing money, just as predicted by every unbiased analyst.

In it's first year of operation, 2011,  the Stadium fell short of projected revenues by $350,000.

That is the last public information we have on the stadium's finances.

For  the 2012 season, Town officials have steadfastly refused to make any figures available.

Those numbers should have been made public in February. But they are being kept secret by town officials.

Ask yourself:  why do the Town officials refuse to release stadium earnings?

If the stadium was making money, we'd all know about it.

If the stadium was making money, that information would be available and trumpeted all over the media.

If the stadium was making money, no tax increase would be necessary.

Ramapo has been hit with a nearly 10% tax increase this year, in large measure to pay for the Stadium.

Have you been to a game at the stadium lately?  Perhaps 1/4 of the seats are filled.  The thrill has worn off; the Boulders have few fans.

Have the Boulders themselves made any rent payments?  No one outside of a small circle in town government know, and they are keeping this information secret.

Unless Ramapo changes direction, there will undoubtedly be further tax increases as the stadium continues to be a drain on the town's financial resources.

The town's taxpayers voted against building a stadium, but the town politicians built it anyway.

Why?  Where did the $63 million taxpayer money go?

Someone did quite well in Ramapo, and the taxpayers will have to ante up to pay the bill.

There is an election on November 5.  If the town voters can summon the energy to go to the polls and vote, we can have a new Supervisor and a new direction, and perhaps save Ramapo from bankruptcy.
