Meet Lon Hofstein

Lon Hofstein, with County Executive Day's full support, will be on the ballot this November to serve you in Ed Day's former seat in Legislative District 5.

A man's management of his own purse speaks volumes about his character - Thomas Jefferson

Ed Day's choice to fill his former seat is Lon Hofstein, a New City resident who will run against Barry Kantrowitz in the upcoming special election this November to fill County Executive Day’s vacated seat in Legislative District 5.

Mr. Hofstein owns a successful accounting firm in NYC and is the President of the New City Little League, a position he has held for the past 11 years. Lon is also serving as a member of the Clarkstown Parks and Recreation Commission.

As a County Legislator Mr. Hofstein will use his knowledge and experience in finance as well his experience in community projects to help County Executive Day overcome the fiscal ineptitude that has prevailed in the legislature for more than a decade.

Lon has lived in New City for over 25 years with his wife, Rosemarie, where they have raised their children, Alexandra and Daniel. His children attended school in the Clarkstown school district and Lon is deeply aware and concerned about the educational issues now facing some of the school communities in Rockland County.

Lon's childhood home was the Sedgwick Housing projects in the Bronx where he was born to parents of simple means.  Like many Rockland County residents, Lon's father had to work several jobs at one time to keep their family fed, clothed and housed.  Lon attended NYC public schools and graduated from Baruch College and as a young man he participated in youth organizations that taught him the value of working as a team for the betterment of all members of the community. Goals could be achieved and ideals attained by reaching across social and economic barriers.

As an accountant and management consultant Lon knows how to work cooperatively with diverse groups of businesses and people who may not always share common goals.  Those skills have also been used in his tenure as President of the New City Little League for the past eleven years where Lon learned first hand that in Rockland County there are important needs that our children, their families and the community at large are struggling to meet. Despite the long hours and the ups and downs of running such a large organization, Lon has learned that volunteerism, though challenging, is extremely rewarding.

Lon's wife and his now-grown children are all enthusiastic about their husband and father offering to take on the challenge of working with Ed Day to tackle the crisis that is facing Rockland County and its overtaxed citizens.

Lon asks that all people in our County, whatever their political persuasion, consider giving him their support this coming November - the problems he sees facing us are not political but financial.  Such problems can only be solved by people of good will joining together to make good budget decisions that meet the needs of all people in our community while controlling expenditures that drive property taxes through the stratosphere.

Rockland County has sold a $96 million bond to apply to its $145 million deficit.  According to an article by Anne Phyllis Pinzow in the March 05, 2014 issue of Our Town until a couple of weeks ago the county had only $42,000 remaining after paying its bills.

That is why we need more financial people representing us in government regardless of their political party.  Our government needs people who can 'count' not people who can 'litigate'.
