Linda Hill, president of the Rockland Farm Bureau said Schimpf will greatly missed by their members and her family, the Concklins. Schimpf served as bureau president for 15 years and another 15 years on its board of directors.

"Tom was first to all of us a staunch meticulous grower," said Hill. "He worked 24/7 in his nursery business. We (the Rockland County farmers) are going to miss his presence at meetings and our various interchanges during our growing seasons. Always thoughtful when you could entice him into an exchange, his observations were clear."

She said Schimpf understood the challenges of being a farmer in Rockland.

"As a farmer in suburbia Tom knew part of our job was to continually try to educate the public about who farmers are and what farmers do," HIll explained. "Currently New York Farm Bureau (Rockland County is the local chapter) is working hard to expand public knowledge of farming through their Foundation for Agricultural Education, Inc."

Hill said donations could be made locally in Schimpf's name through the Rockland County Farm Bureau with the notation: Ag Education in memory of Tom Schimpf. Donations can be mailed to Jane Vlastellica, 34 Esther Ave, Congers, NY 10920. The Rockland County Farm Bureau gives farmers and non-farmers alike the opportunity to be part of an organization dedicated to supporting and enriching agriculture.
