In support of the mom and pop shop

Here we are again. . . slaves to the marketing geniuses that be. Recently, clipping coupons and signing up for email rewards and loyalty programs have become the norm when this time if year approaches. I, myself am a mere $92 away from a free turkey according to my last ShopRite receipt.

A few years ago, the concept of small business Saturday spread like wildfire; a noble concept in uncertain times. With more mom-and-pop retail stores and restaurants here in Rockland closing at an alarming rate, it had me thinking. . . if I had to fulfill my entire Christmas list locally, where would I shop?

Sure, I could take the easy way out and hit the mall, or Target/Walmart. But this year, I really want to make a contentious effort to support local businesses. So, I need to enlist your help.

Where do you, the readers, intend to shop this year for small business Saturday? Where do you buy a toy, a book, a scarf (you get the idea) in Rockland? Let's put together a comprehensive list of the small businesses to support this season. Cheers to making this a successful year for all of our local retailers!
