Clarkstown North Student Club Donates $2,000 to Meals on Wheels

The Clarkstown High School North SAM (Students Assisting Meals) Club just completed its first year of activities.  The mission of this club is to fundraise and spread awareness for Meals on Wheels.  The mission of Meals on Wheels is to help the homebound, senior and others in Rockland County through a multipurpose agency which focuses on nutritional, recreational and social support programs.

The North SAM Club held two big fundraising events to support Meals on Wheels.  First the club held a coin drop on April 5th and 6th outside of ShopRite in New City.  Members of the club requested donations from the incoming shoppers.  Thanks to the help of many generous people, the club raised nearly $900 from the event.  Second, the club conducted a walk-a-thon on the Walking Trail at Clarkstown North High School on Sunday June 1st.  Members of the club and others from the community walked the trail for approximately three miles on a beautiful Sunday morning.  The club received over $1,000 in pledges from all the participants in the walk.

The North SAM Club raised a total of $2,000 this year to donate to Meals on Wheels.  The club presented a check to Ms. Sharon Martini, the Volunteer Coordinator at Meals on Wheels on Thursday June 12th at Clarkstown North High School.  The members hope this club, which started last November, will be even more successful next year with a full year to work with.
