Kada & Peace need a home

I am a volunteer at Hi Tor Animal Care Center in Rockland County, NY. In February the shelter took in two 11 year old sisters due to their owner who was in her 90's passing away.  The family was not interested in trying to move them to a relative so they left them there with nothing.  I have been trying every outlet possible to find them a home, they have been featured on numerous famous Facebook pages such as The Patrick Miracle, Daniel the Beagle Dwyer, and even Sammy the Cocker Spaniel has shared them.  I am completely out of options. They have had thousands of shares and not one person has come forward to visit them or see them.  They have been sharing one small run at the shelter since February because the first few days they were there they had their own run and both constantly cried without the other one, even if in sight.  Due to the small space they insist on sharing, they are unable to fit a soft bed or a Kurunda bed in the run so they sleep on a blanket on concrete.  One volunteer bought them a $150 orthopedic bed, but over a few weeks as boredom set in they began to chew it and it was no longer safe to use. The shelter has said from day one that they do not get along with other dogs, however I am still convinced that this may be due to the stress of the environment and not entirely true.  Kada doesn't seem to care for other dogs one way or the other when she is on walks with me alone, however once her and Peace are walking Peace likes to defend Kada almost and then they both bark.  This is their ONLY downside.  They are giant lap dogs, believed to be of terrier mixes, possibly ridgeback even.  I have included pictures that were taken by a professional who is a friend of mine and some from my time with them.  I have a ton more from the adoption event a couple of weeks ago when I handled them. I am begging for a chance for Kada and Peace.  They are not happy in a small place and they are inside that run 23 out of 24 hours a day.  It breaks my heart as well as the other volunteers.  Myself and a friend would be happy to drive them to you if you are able to take them.  I would also make sure that I collected a nice donation to your rescue for taking them in.  They are truly happy loving girls who absolutely will lick your whole face and literally try and climb on your lap and sit.  They were once very loved and it shows, they just need an environment where they can thrive and find the right second family.  Their poor owner is probably looking down so sad that this is what happened to her beloved dogs. Recently Kada had a very bad day.  She was unable to get up, and was in a great deal of pain in her joints.  She was tested for Lyme disease and the results were negative.  They are doing more tests to make sure it is nothing more than joint inflammation or arthritis.  She is currently on pain medicine, and one of our volunteers who does holistic therapies provided joint supplements and herbal remedies to make it easier for her to live on cold concrete and be able to be pain free.  She needs a warm soft bed, and a loving caring family and so does Peace. While it would be ideal to keep them together, for the sake of their health and comfort it may be best to try and get them into foster homes or adoptive homes without each other rather than living in pain in these colder months. You can view their facebook page for more info and pictures at A Home for Kada and Peace.
