Boy Scout Troop 78 Honors Three New Eagle Scouts
All Are Juniors at Clarkstown High School South

NANUET, NY. Boy Scout Troop 78 will hold an Eagle Court of Honor for three boys who recently attained the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest rank in Scouting. Connor Farry, Josh Masciovecchio and Peter O’Neill are completing their junior year at Clarkstown High School South.
The ceremony will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Church in West Nyack on Saturday, June 14 at 11 AM.
Before receiving the rank of Eagle Scout, each candidate must demonstrate leadership by planning, raising funds and executing a community service project. For his project, Farry made repairs and installed hand railings on cement steps outside the St. Francis Church rectory. He also restriped the church parking lot. “This experience taught me important life skills,” said Farry. “It was a challenge to pull it all together and give direction both to Scouts and adults. I had to use many of the skills I learned in my Scouting career.”
Masciovecchio’s project involved the construction of three pergolas to beautify Camp Venture in Sparkill. “I knew Camp Venture was a valuable institution in our area and they would really utilize the project and the work benefit the community. Becoming an Eagle Scout has been a long time goal of mine and it was good to see it come to fruition.”
O’Neill constructed and installed bluebird nest houses at Rockland Lake State Park and the adjacent Championship Golf Course. “I selected a project that was environmentally related, and one which also helped Rockland Lake State Park where my two older brothers completed their Eagle Projects. It was very satisfying to see the work come together through the help of the volunteers that I was able to recruit.”
Troop 78 is an active troop with frequent outdoor activities such as camping, hiking and whitewater rafting. Other recent trips have included an annual ski weekend and an historical trip to Washington, DC.
Troop 78 currently has 68 Scouts from all over Rockland County. It is chartered by the Church of St. Anthony in Nanuet and is led by Scoutmaster Jeffrey Negrin. Troop 78 has produced a total of 63 Eagle Scouts since it was founded in 1982.
