Things to Remember When You Plan Buying Cell phone for your Fifth Grader

Planning to buy a cell phone for your fifth grader? Sounds great, where the trouble is? Finding it too early for your child to start with a personal mobile but feeling helpless as your ten year old child keeps complaining that all his school buddies already have their personal handsets?

Well, it is not that bad an idea to buy a cell phone for a ten year old; at least, it is better compared to starting at the age of eight or nine! As our kids are living in the age of digitalization expecting them not to start using the digital devices is almost impossible. You may find it unsafe but by taking some precautions you can make it safe.

Below you have the simple to follow precautionary tips to help you.

Buy an Easy to Use Cell phone with Lesser Features

As your child is still quite young, buying a smart phone or high-tech Internet accessing cell phone will be both useless and unsafe. Even while buying a simpler phone, make sure it doesn’t have too many features especially the ones that you think your child will be misusing.

Learn how to use the Phone

Most parents don’t try learning the features and general usage of the phone. This proves problematic when their kids start over using or badly dealing with certain phone features. Then the parents just don’t get to know how to stop or handle it. Whether or not you’re a gadget lover, this is essential, so the first thing to do after buying your child a phone is to learn using it.

Buy Simpler Service or Plan

Buying simpler and cheaper service or plan is another important thing to do. This will ensure two things: no useless spending or buying and proper use. Avoid buying a post paid plan as this may hurt your pocket if your child happens to over spend by unnecessary downloads or by talking and texting more than required. Best plan for your child will be the one which doesn’t allow your child to download or shop things.

Guide your Child about Safe Cell phone Use

A ten year old can be very naughty. He may purposely drop the phone down or get it broken or forget it somewhere. Guide your child to use the phone safely so that he neither loses it nor damages it. Also, teach your child to password lock the phone and never to share the password with others. Your child must also know how to blacklist or block unwanted people who bully him or disturb him unnecessarily.

Tell your child what you don’t expect

Soon after getting a personal cell phone your child may start over using it by text chatting with his friends all the time or using it at odd times such as during the dinner, while doing home work, when in the classroom or late at night when it is time to sleep. Make it clear that you’ll take the phone back if your child does what you don’t expect.

Use Cell phone Monitoring Application

Your child may get naughty and spend all his time on the newly acquired possession. This can be damaging for your child’s learning and overall growth. But when you monitor your child’s cell phone activities you can easily discipline him. And for this using cell phone monitoring application works the best. These applications not only help you in keeping track of what your child is doing but also let you block unwanted activities like downloading and Internet surfing.

Monitoring technologies also allow you to blacklist or block contacts remotely and also make out where your child is through GPS location tracking this can be helpful in retrieving the phone in case of a loss.
