15-Year-Old Hits Boy on Bike With SUV, Mom Charged

A 15-year-old is accused of hitting an 11-year-old boy with his family's SUV at Yogi Bear Campground in Gardiner, resulting in charges for his mother.

The 39-year-old New City woman was charged by the Ulster County Sheriff’s department with permitting unlicensed operation of a vehicle for allegedly allowing her son to drive the SUV, according to Mid-Hudson News.

Police told Mid-Hudson News that the 15-year-old was driving the SUV on Sunday, July 28 around 2:10 p.m. from the park’s office back to the family’s campsite. He allegedly did not see the 11-year-old boy riding his bike on a side road and continued to drive over the bike and child’s leg.

Mid-Hudson news reports that the driver dragged the 11-year-old for a short distance on the gravel surface before being stopped by campers.

The bicyclist was treated for abrasions to his leg and arms at St. Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie, while the driver was treated on site for anxiety and released to his parents and police.
