A 16-year-old boy who was attending an end-of-season party for a baseball team fell down a 30-foot ventilation shaft in a Stony Point building and had to be rescued by volunteer firefighters Wednesday night, according to police.
The accident took place around 9:24 p.m. at Kirkbride Hall, 5 Patriot Hills Drive, a Stony Point town-owned facility just off Willow Grove Road.
Police said the boy suffered an ankle injury in the fall and was pulled out of the shaft by members of the Stony Point Fire Department. The boy was taken to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla for treatment of his non-life-threatening injury.
Police said the teen strayed away from the party and climbed into a storage area in at Kirkbride Hall, which includes a gym and a stage. Police said the teen fell into the shaft when he accessed the storage area.
Police said it was uncertain why the teen went to this area of Kirkbride Hall.
