7 Women Arrested in Rockland Massage-Parlor Sting
The spas involved are in New City, Nanuet and Nyack.
A six-month probe by Clarkstown Police and the Rockland District Attorney's Special Victims and Community Prosecution bureaus into illegal massage parlors and prostitution has resulted in the indictment of seven women.
Rockland County District Attorney Thomas P. Zugibe said in a press release that County Attorney Thomas Humbach continues to prosecute civil actions seeking injunctions and fines against the employers of the indicted women and the landlords who lease property to those employers.
The businesses are:
- Z Green Spa, 159 Route 304, Nanuet
- Keum Tree Spa, 255 South Little Tor Road, New City
- Nanuet Spa, 344 W. Route 59, Nanuet
- New City Spa, 55-71 South Main Street, New City
- Nyack Health Spa, 9 Ingalls Street, Nyack
"This joint operation clearly demonstrates our emphasis on 'quality of life' crimes, including prostitution," Zugibe said. "While some may call prostitution a victimless crime, it often leads to other illegal activity, including human trafficking, drug sales and violence."
From November, 2013 to May, 2014, undercover Clarkstown detectives, along with investigators from the District Attorney's Office, visited the businesses several times. According to the charges, the seven defendants offered massages which they were not licensed by the State of New York to perform and engaged or offered to engage in sexual conduct with another person in return for a fee.
Massage therapists must be licensed by the New York State Education Department. An “E” Felony carries a maximum of four years in state prison.
