A car burst into flames in a two-car accident on the Palisades Parkway early Sunday morning. One passenger was taken to the hospital to be treated for facial injuries, and other passengers suffered minor injuries, according to the Nanuet Fire Department.
“One car was fully engulfed in flames when we arrived at the scene,” said Billy Schoenleber, captain of the Nanuet Fire Department. The call came in to the department at around 2 a.m., he said.
At least four passengers were in the Chrysler car that caught fire. The other vehicle involved in the crash, a BMW, was badly damaged. Schoenleber said that along with the driver, there may have been one other passenger in the BMW.
Schoenleber said the Chrysler’s fuel tank may have exploded upon impact. Firefighters extinguished the blaze in about an hour, he said.
Schoenleber also said he did not know if the accident was DUI related.
The New City and Spring Valley Fire Departments provided backup. State police were also on the scene to investigate.
That must of been one hell of a car fire.
