Can we find out what areas of New City, etc. these incidents occurred in?
Marie Zanicchi July 09, 2012 at 09:00 PM
Would be nice to know whereabouts in New City and Bardonia all these incidents took place.......(streets and roads)
Michael N. Hull July 09, 2012 at 09:18 PM
JH: Sounds like the group that did this left a trail which runs between New City and Nanuet with a stop in Bardonia. So we probably know with 1/2 mile or so where the group originated and where the group lives. Was there a party somewhere within 1/2 mile of either end of this trail of damage.  If so that's a good place to start with the interviews.  And one could probably surmise that they all travelled in one car which had to make a stop in Bardonia to drop one or more of the participants off at their homes. I would bet if the police published a map showing where the incidents occurred and asked the public for information on any party that had occurred within a short distance of the two end points this case might be solved quite quickly.  Anyone else want to expand on this analysis?

Keep offering multi-family dwellings, increased "social services" and support for places like the Palisades Mall and this is what will come of it all.

I just saw a back windshield broken on Shorthill Road in New City passing by the other day....Probably was part of the 20 cars...I hope they catch these stupid jerks. Perhaps their parents did not teach them what's right and wrong...And if these jerks are reading this.......Please get a life you stupid jerks.
Kerry Ohare July 10, 2012 at 11:18 AM
Gwashington what does your comment mean? It can't possibly be a kid from clarkstown who thought it would be fun to vandalize cars? Has to be someone on social services. Wow.

Schools out for the summer........! Maybe it would be great if there was more for the teens to do in the area. Keeping them busy usually keeps them out of trouble.

Maiden Lane (off Brewery) in New City, several cars parked on street took a hit. And disgusted taxpayer - no one will hear it late night with the windows closed and the AC on.

A load of mailboxes were stolen and used to throw at car windows, my neighbor had hers stolen

I'm always amazed and somewhat baffled that when an outbreak of teen vandalism occurs and the first thing we do is to blame the police. Considering they [the police] can't be everywhere at one time, I just love to know where the hell the parents are. Has child rearing become so lax that this is what our kids have to do to entertain themselves. It seems to be that a large enough group of parents (whether wealthy or not) either don't take the time to instill a modicum of decency in their kids. Or is it do to a lack of time and dedication on the parents part, or are they just out of touch whith what their kids do when their not around, or is it that they just don't care. Come on people, wake up, these are YOUR children acting out for all the wrong reasons and in all the wrong ways. And some parents blame their friends, those kids have parents too.

No point in printing this unless the public gets a "heads up" on where it occurred. I think the story needs to be expanded or no point in printing in the first place.

My neighbors white truck was parked on the street on Terrace ave Nanuet. Side mirror was in middle of road. I thought some idiot sideswiped the car. Apparently not.
Tom July 10, 2012 at 03:40 PM
In New City they hit at least 1 car on Hollow Dr and another on Short Hill, both parked on the street. They took a shot at my car parked in the driveway, but missed (softball size rock landed on the driveway). Sometime between 2AM and 5AM, but with the windows closed and the A/C cranked up, nobody heard a thing.

Well this should be interesting. Given we have one of the most expensive police forces in the whole of the USA and given our police chief earns more than the police chief in NY City we should expect to see some results in this case. I agree that the police should produce a map of the location of all of the incidents and post it here in Patch. It would also be worthwhile to advise any parent or other person who has information on this and who does not come forward with that information then they can be charged with being accesories to the fact. One would expect that wing mirrors etc would be dusted for fingerprints. Where the same fingerprint is found on two or more objects it likely it belongs to one of the culprits. But maybe the cost of searching for fingerprints is too expensive a proposition for the Clarkstown PD?

Hey Maureen, You've been watching CSI way too much. Don't blame the police, try directing your anger (?) at the "precious little wonders" parents.
Watchdog July 10, 2012 at 09:34 PM
Where we're the police patrolling in relation to where these incidents took place?
elaine July 11, 2012 at 12:35 AM

Kim Tran July 11, 2012 at 05:59 AM
The vandalized cars were mostly parked on the roadside on Middletown, Brewery and Germonds roads. There will be an update on Patch on Wednesday morning
stephany July 11, 2012 at 01:40 PM
the real tragedy is that when and if any of the hooligans gets caught they will not end up with a record. it will be a fine mommy and daddy will pay and community service. wouldn't want to ruin their chances of going to a good school now would we
Maureen..money doesnt always buy us what we pay for..we are the laughing stock of most of NY and Nj..when people hear what we have allowed by the politicians and union thugs.....about salaries in clowntown..they ask..are those salaries real? seriously to pay "locals" more than state Govs...heads of NYC divisions.....more that NYS attorney general..it is a very sad commentary...a clerk of the works gets almost as our GOV Andrew Cuomo???who is perhaps a presidential candiate in 4 years?scary...we have allowed many roads to look like strip garbage dumps.with over grown properties..this area is a joke...and ALL THOSE ON MAPLE AVE KNOW THAT IN A FEW WEEKS EVERYONE FORGETS.
Brenda M July 12, 2012 at 09:17 PM
Kim - Please put in a FOIL (Freedom of Information) request to Town Clerk, Justin Sweet, asking how many police cars were on patrol during the time period these incidents took place and where they were located during this time period. This is information that the public should have and is something that if the press was playing the role in our society that our forefathers expected would have already been obtained by the media.   To the editors of Patch and the Journal News I suggest that you obtain this information in the public interest!    How many cars were on patrol?  Were they parked or cruising the streets?
Watchdog July 13, 2012 at 03:08 AM
Don't hold your breath Brenda, even if Kim were to FOIL this information we would not get it. She can appeal the request to the FOIL APPEAL OFFICER....none other than AlEX GROMACK, who signed off on 7 years of double digit compounded raises for the CPD after saying several years ago that the CPD salaries were outrageous.

There was a serious incident of vandalism spreading across at least an hour of time and so far the Clarkstown Police have been unable to determine just who was responsible for this very costly crime spree. A short press interview with the Chief of Police Sullivan indicated that it was "youngsters on a rampage, that is all all we know" . Fact is that he does not know it was a group of "youngsters" since no one has been apprehended. The total dollar amount of the damage is not known or reported. Twenty cars at $2,000 per car is $40,000 pf damage nit kncluding the time and further expense taxpayers incur getting their cars fixed. This is a very serious crime spree and when taxpayers inquire (not accuse) as to the location of patrols during the time of the crime spree, they are met with a barrage of "you hate cops" or "leave the cops alone" or "stop picking on cops, they cannot be everywhere" . I will point out that no one accused the cops of anything, a simple question was asked and taxpayers have a right to know. Were the usual amount of patrols out that evening and if so where we're they? We should not have to resort to FOIL Requests every time we inquire about a police incident. The Press, as BrendaM aptly points out should do its job and inquire of the police. We have a right to know and Chief Sullivan has the duty to tell us.
Clarkstown life July 14, 2012 at 12:17 PM
why don't you ask your question at a town board meeting where the chief attends. almost certainly won't need foil there..... these blogs are not the forum...especially if you have thin skin and can't take the 'barrage of you hate cops'; $2000 / car ???? did you get those numbers where you got your cpd time off numbers????
Watchdog July 19, 2012 at 12:08 PM
Did the cops catch thesecriminals yet? How about an update from the PATCH?
