Clarkstown Police Ask for Patience at Gas Stations

Police have responded to numerous reports of disputes at gas stations.

The Clarkstown Police Department has responded to numerous reports of disputes at gas stations.

The Clarkstown Police Department is urging everyone to be patient and to exercise civil behavior until the gas situation improves.  Gas lines are long and can pose a hazard by blocking intersections or other vehicular traffic.  Please be courteous to others by not cutting lines and by not obstructing traffic.

Starting at 6 p.m. this [Friday] evening, the County Executive has issued a local emergency order restricting gasoline purchases to 10 gallons.  This order exempts emergency services vehicles and certain other commercial businesses. The Clarkstown Police Department will be enforcing this local order.  People found disturbing the peace may be subject to arrest or issued a summons.

According to Govenor Andrew Cuomo, the gas situation should improve over the next 72 to 96 hours as the US Coast Guard has resumed barge travel along the Hudson River.

Stop & Shop's gas station in New City does not have any police presence and they've managed to organize their lines with extra store employees directing cars and giving gas restriction info to each car. They're keeping their gas lines moving. The rest of Clarkstown should follow their amazing example!

Gotta agree - Stop & Shop had their act together all week- and Clarkstown PD is doing a very good job - keep in mind they have quite a number of cars and officers babysitting intersections up and down 304 and 59 to keep traffic flowing safely, and they are at the gas stations, and patrolling neighborhoods with no power, and still responding to the regular day to day call volume. If O&R would do half that much work - things would be 1000x better!

What about gas stations that are price gouging. They make extra money on others misery. They should be ashamed of themselves. One gas station in particular raised the price as soon as word got out that gas was at a premium. Stay away from the station on New Hempstead and Valley Rd. in New City. They are pathetic and should be ashamed of themselves. Remember karma is a ... How does this guy sleep at night.

Costco gas has been amazing. They stayed open 24hrs a day and there are employees that it seem like never went home. Line was very long but moved fast and was very organized all because of employees. Bravo

I was in a bind for gas, so I mixed some lighter fluid with water. Sure beat waiting in those lines.
