Congers-Valley Cottage Ambulance Corps Dedicates 9/11 Memorial

The members of the Congers-Valley Cottage Volunteer Ambulance Corps (CVCVAC) dedicated their 9/11 Memorial on the 12th anniversary of the attacks.

The centerpiece of the memorial is a piece of steel from World Trade Center. CVCVAC former chairman and life member Andrew Gioseffi, who led Wednesday's ceremony, had obtained the steel piece. The fragment was stored until the construction of the ambulance corps new building on Kings Highway in Congers was completed.

Boy Scout Peter Schauer of Troop 29 created the memorial for his Eagle Scout project. Schauer of Congers approached the ambulance corps about nine months ago about a community project and the decision was made to incorporate the World Trade Center steel into it.

The service included a plaque presentation to Schauer in appreciation of the project.  A wreath of flowers was placed at the memorial and the names of the Congers and Valley Cottage residents who lost their lives were read. A moment of silence in their honor followed.

Corps President said Greg Smith said, “This will become an annual event of CVCVAC to pay our respects to the victims and their families.”
