Counterfeit Bill-Passing Lands Bronx Man in State Prison

Vito S. Cerbone, age 31, of the Bronx, will serve 1 ½ to 3 years in state prison after pleading guilty to second degree Attempted Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument to be served concurrently with another indictment.

He was originally charged with 11 counts of possession of counterfeit bills. 

District Attorney Thomas P. Zugibe said Cerbone attempted to exchange five counterfeit $20 bills for a legitimate $100 bill at the Stop & Shop in Nanuet.

He also attempted to pay with counterfeit bills while at the Dog House Restaurant.

Cerbone was sentenced Feb. 19 by County Court Judge  Charles Apotheker.
