A five-vehicle accident on Congers Road near Brewery Road occurred at 1:30 p.m. requiring the road to be briefly closed. No major injuries have been reported by the Clarkstown Police but one woman was taken to the hospital by the Congers- Valley Cottage Ambulance Corps as a precaution because she is pregnant. Westbound traffic was diverted from Congers Road to Brewery Road while the crash was being cleared.
Four of the cars involved in the accident were traveling westbound on Congers road, while the fifth was traveling northbound on Brewery road.
One car, a Subaru, was on Congers rd and was slowing down to make a left turn onto Brewery rd. It was struck in the rear by a black car causing it to enter the lane of traffic. This caused a chain reaction:
The green car traveling behind the black one stopped to avoid the accident, but in doing so was rear ended by the blue car behind it.
In addition, when the Subaru was pushed into the lane of traffic, the fifth vehicle—a red car that was traveling on Brewery rd—tried to swerve around the Subaru, but in doing so, lost control and struck the green one.
"In order to avoid the Subaru, (the red car) ended up going into the green car. The red car t-boned the green one," said police at the scene. "The green truck was then re-ended by the blue Honda."
