Gas Leak Closes Lake Road in Valley Cottage

15 gas services were affected by the construction accident

A contractor dug into a main gas line on Lake Road in Valley Cottage at Elliots Alley, causing a small gas leak at 3:30 p.m. on Monday afternoon, according to Sophia Salis, Orange and Rockland spokesperson. This resulted in the closure of Lake Road at this intersection for several hours.

"Repairs were being made ... when he dug into a main. 15 gas services were affected," said Salis. "The gas situation was isolated by 5:35 p.m. ... and they made the situation safe."

Repairs began again after the gas leak was taken care of.

Salis said that it will take 1-2 hours from 5:35 p.m. to complete the repairs because the "damage wasn't extensive. It was very limited. After they do the repairs, they'll then restore services."
