Hillcrest Firefighters: Plan Ahead for Emergencies

Volunteers offer safety advice at fire prevention open house set for Oct. 21 at North Main Street firehouse.

Hillcrest Fire Company No. 1 is welcoming members of the community to visit its North Main Street firehouse for the annual fire prevention open house.

The open house is set for 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 21, when the fire department's volunteers will show off their fire trucks and firefighting gear and put on a fire simulation.

Hillcrest firefighter Chris Kear says the message for this year's fire prevention efforts is one that encourages families to plan in advance so they have at least two ways of getting out of their homes in case of fire or other emergency.

Then open house will be located at the Hillcrest Firehouse, 300 N. Main Street, Hillcrest, across the street from Bravo Supermarket. In addition to Hillcrest, the volunteers also protect western portions of New City.
