Hurricane Irene's One Year Anniversary

Last year's hurricane wreaked havoc on homes, roads and structures throughout the area.

 

On Aug. 27, 2011 New City residents were boarding up their houses and businesses, making arrangements to stay with family and of grocery stores. Hurricane Irene was on her way and people were not taking chances. The storm hit on Aug. 28, flooding homes with more than four feet of water in certain areas, knocking trees over power lines and homes. Nearly 110,000 O&R customers at some point during the storm

Emergency crews worked more than 24 hours straight helping residents with flooding and other damage. Clarkstown estimated almostfor the cost of all expenses associated with the Aug. 27 and 28 storm.
