A group of local officials and law enforcement officers met at West Street Child Center in Spring Valley Thursday morning to show their support for QUALITYstarsNY, a quality rating improvement system from the Early Childhood Advisory Council intended to improve early education, which in turn could help reduce crime. Some of the officials there -- State Sen. David Carlucci, Assembly members Ellen Jaffee and Ken Zebrowski and Scarsdale Chief of Police John Brogan stayed around after the press conference to read a story to a class of preschool children. The kids were happy to have story time, with a few even asking for more stories after the officials were done. Others simply enjoyed trying on Brogan’s police hat.
