Man Assaults Victim in Church Parking Lot, Flees on Bike: Police

A 58-year-old Congers man was arrested in a local church parking lot after assaulting someone and trying to flee by bike, according to police.

The alleged attacker approached the 35-year-old victim on Tuesday night at about 10 p.m., police said, in the parking lot of St. Paul's Church. He demanded money—and when the victim didn't pull out cash, the man allegedly began punching his head and body.

"The victim sustained bruising and lacerations during the scuffle but refused transport to the hospital," Clarkstown police told Patch.

The accused assailant attempted to flee on bicycle but was located a short distance away, authorities added. He was arrested and charged with assault in the third degree, a misdemeanor.
