A 41-year-old Westchester County man was killed in motorcycle crash just before midnight on Sickletown Road in West Nyack, Clarkstown police said this morning.
Police believe Freddy Calderin of North Salem was in the area visiting a friend.
The crash led to the closing of Sickletown Road for five hours for the Clarkstown police accident investigation team to review the scene of the crash at 251 Sickletown Road. The road was opened to traffic at about 5 a.m., police said.
The motorcyclist died at the scene of the crash. Police released the motorcyclist's name this afternoon after family members had been notified of his death. Calderin was riding a 2007 Kawasaki.
The crash took place about 11:50 p.m. on Sickletown Road near Townline Road in West Nyack, where police said the motorcyclist lost control and was thrown from the motorcycle. Police said the motorcyclist died at the scene of the crash.
Although results of the review of the accident were not yet available, police said speed appears to be a factor in the crash and fatality. The driver was checked at the scene of the crash by members of Rockland Paramedics and the body was removed by the Rockland County Medical Examiner's Office.
No other vehicles were involved in the crash, police said.
