Nyack Man Sentenced For Sex & Drug Crimes, Welfare Fraud

Rockland County District Attorney Thomas P. Zugibe announced Tuesday that Jashaad Gulifield, 30, of 11 Highview Court, Nyack was sentenced to state prison after pleading guilty to Welfare Fraud, Criminal Sexual Assault and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance.

Zugibe said Gulifield will serve three to six years for Welfare Fraud in the Third Degree, a class “D” Felony, three years for Criminal Sexual Assault in the Third Degree, a class “D” Felony and three years for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Fifth Degree, a class “D” Felony. The sentences will be served concurrently.

According to the district attorney, Gulifield also received five years and two years post-release supervision on the sexual assault and drug charges, respectively.

“On June 9, 2012, in Central Nyack, Gulifield arranged to meet a 16 year old female,” said Zugibe. “During their encounter, the defendant sexually assaulted the victim in a parked car.”

The following month, Gulifield allegedly sold Oxycodone to another person at the BP Gas Station on Route 303 in Congers.

He was ordered to pay $6,015 restitution to the Rockland County Department of Social Services for reportedly falsifying public assistance applications for Medicaid benefits and food stamps between November 2011 and June 2012. Zugibe said Gulifield lied about his residence and income, stating he was unemployed although he was working as a laborer.

Gulifield, who has a prior record, was identified during a June 2012 welfare fraud sweep at the Waldron Terrace Housing Complex in Central Nyack.
