One Injury From Fire At Dry Cleaners

A fire at Dan Allen Cleaners at 222 South Main Street in New City left one employee injured on Friday. The New City Fire Department arrived at the scene around 5 p.m. and discovered the fire was in a commercial-sized clothes dryer. It had originally been reported as a structure fire.

Fire Chief Kenny Flynn said employees had knocked the majority of the fire out with an extinguisher before firefighters arrived. He said one employee suffered burns to his right arm and was treated at the scene by Rockland Paramedics and EMTs from the Congers-Valley Cottage Ambulance Corps, who took him to the hospital. New City firefighters remained at the scene for about a half hour.

The Congers and Hillcrest fire departments also responded but returned to their stations once the source of the fire was discovered. Clarkstown police directed traffic and handled crowd control. The Clarkstown Fire Inspector was investigating the cause of the blaze.
