UPDATE: Teen Killed By Train

Victim and another teen were walking in fenced-off area.

Arianna Wellen, 15, of Tuxedo Park, was killed on the Metro-North train tracks Saturday night about a mile north of the Nanuet train station, authorities said.

The victim was on the tracks at about 8:20 p.m. when a Spring Valley-bound New Jersey Transit train hit them, said Courtney Carroll, a spokeswoman for New Jersey Transit, which operates trains on the Pascack Valley Line for Metro-North.

Metro-North's Dan Brucker said it appeared Wellen and a 16-year-old male were walking along a section of track enclosed by a security fence. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Carroll said train 2125 on the Pascack Valley Line had departed Hoboken at 7:22 p.m. and was carrying eight remaining passengers when conductors "reported striking an individual on the tracks."

Because of the accident and resulting investigation, the train was halted. The passengers were deboarded and given the option of waiting for a bus arranged for by New Jersey Transit, or making their own accomodations, Carroll said.
