shouldn't they have been sleeping on a school night? what great parents let their high school kids out at 3am on any night?
Amazing!!!!!!!!!!!as usual its always the citizen that does the job!!!!we should pay ctizens a daily salary based on 250,000 yearly for their effort...so give the person say 1200 for his helping to catch the perps LOL..after all..didnt he or s hedo the difficult part?say something did something.. by the way where were the patrols? heres a comparison..last week in brooklyn while going to our car..we saw NYPD Police on every other block!!!!!yes actually standing on every corner doing??guesss what!!!their jobs of making the people feel safe!!!!and we are talking a time of about 1AM..nice brownstone area..here we have the outrageous costs yet the "citizen makes the action that caused the arrest"
Chris September 19, 2012 at 05:11 pm
The vandals and their parents should be taken to town square and flogged in public.
B John September 19, 2012 at 07:17 pm
On top of paying for th damages the Parents should be assigned 12 hours of community service for not "parenting" their children. Arrested at 3 am? Why are they out at that hour?

you are insane. .....in your world 'americas most wanted' shouldn't exist either
VinnyfromCongers September 19, 2012 at 08:05 pm
The NY state legislature is trying to de-criminalize misdemeanors and felonies committed by 16 and 17 yr olds. After all, they're so young and shouldn't have their futures ruined because of a couple of "minor felonies." There is a local judge who goes on WRCR and actually believes this. Keep the pressure on our assemblyman and senator to stop this.

Yes, the CPD should immediately hire 35,764 more cops so they too can put a cop on every street corner!!!
condo res September 19, 2012 at 08:51 pm
The police always seem to be someplace else when anything happens around here , and on the minor issues escalate everything I'm not impressed by them and the way they treat us locals.
the reality of expectation is as follows...if we are paying outrageous salaries and most of the country laughs and shakes their heads in dis-belief when they see and hear what cops get in clarksclownville..like for what??it should be a crime to ask the taxpayers for funding of these salaries anyone ever hear abouta 'balanced budget"? clowntown is no different that what caused the banks to implode...give all the money to everyone and not worry about the future.a part timer for the highway department making 75,000 we need arnold diaz to follow up on americas most wanted job!!!!!mmm maybe time to give him a call!!!!!will make everyone in ny laugh in dis-belief..
but the truth is a lower paid policer officer patrolling the streets of NYC gets paid a lot less to do a great job involving a lot more exposure that this dot on a map ..we are paying madison ave prices for .....well we all know that answer
yoo clarkstown lifer..we do exist on Amercias Most wanted...its called that 75,000 part time job.25 hours a week to answer phones??what was the requirement anyone? your last name had to end in a vowel?.makes sitting down more difficult for most taxpayers
INTHEKNOW September 19, 2012 at 11:25 pm
I'm not impressed with your grammar.
Yes, from now on the police should only hire officers with psychic abilities, then they can predict crime in the future and stop it. Geez.....kids do bad things, there are bad people in the world. The crime was committed, and the cops caught them, with the public's help, but that's not enough. Another thing, Conco Res, how are they treating you bad? I've lived in this town my whole life and I've never really had to deal with them. Why do you have so much interaction that you can make an opinion as to "how they treat us locals". Seems to me you're probably a person who the police probably don't care for either.

These "young adults" should do jail time if over 16 yrs old and restitution to all who suffered losses. And if under 16 yrs old....juvenile detention. I know..I know...don't lock up these young men because it costs so much and studies show it doesn't deter crime , don't care....have them lose their freedom and have to buy snacks with money Mommy and Daddy left on the books for them. Have them see what's it like not being able to roam around on the week end and all the great things jail has to offer. They must have been laughing and high fiving each other after all the damage...let's see how they laugh on Oct 1 . Unless Mommy and Daddy get the best lawyers out there to make the charges go away.

Im not even sure what your post is trying to say... are you saying that a patrol car should be assigned specifically to the New City Condos? Clarkstown has patrol units assigned to every hamlet/area of Clarkstown - several in most areas - not to mention their HQ is only a mile from you "locals". Chances are they would have a pretty quick response time to any significant emergency. If you are not happy with the way they respond to your needs/complaints, go talk to the Chief instead of whining about it from your keyboard.
Donna September 20, 2012 at 05:27 pm
Did you never have a children sneak out of a bedroom window, while you, being a "great parent", are sleeping so you can get up in the morning and go to work to support your children?
Donna September 20, 2012 at 05:35 pm
Wow, you guys amaze me! Right away, blame the parents....don't these kids, at 16 years of age, have their own minds? Most parents are asleep, getting ready to work in the morning. I dont know, maybe its me, but do you stay up all night to make sure your kids are staying asleep? Unfortunately the kids of today have change dramatically since we were kids, and no matter how good of a parent you are, your kids still have a mind of their own and are influenced by their friends 9 times out of 10. I dont know if any of you have teens, but you must be aware that their friends know better than their parents (from their point of view), and that they are far more likely to follow their friends than listen to their parents. smh
Wendy September 21, 2012 at 05:35 pm
Donna, I completely agree with you. Teenagers are very sneaky these days regardless of how we are on top of them. No parent ever thinks that it will happen to them. Well - that's what I thought too. I'm glad they did get caught and hope that the punishment fits the crime. This is not like smashing mailboxes with bats......so much more serious than that. I can first hand feel what it's like to be on the side of the one being vandalized. Too many teenage "crimes" happen without anyone knowing about it in these small towns.
Smitty Chesterfield September 21, 2012 at 06:06 pm
well donna, shake your head all you want but unlike these parents i hope you teach your kids some respect. parents should know who their kids are hanging around with. and if your saying kids have their own minds, then they should be influenced 9 out of 10 times
Donna September 22, 2012 at 11:14 pm
I brought my kids up to respect elders, which they do, and definitely not to sneak out of the house, but I found out recently one of them did sneak out...luckily she didnt cause any trouble, but when I found out, I was all over her and due to her punishment (you know, the good ole take the cell phone away, laptop, etc....) she hasnt done it again....that I am aware of!! My point is punish the boys for vandalism, not the innocent parents (if they are innocent and did not give them permission to be out).Short of putting bars on the windows and booby trapping the doors, once you are asleep, you really dont know what the kids are up to, and just hope they are using their brains instead of being influenced by their friends.

Aerial of United Water's proposed water treatment plant
Tom Nimick June 11, 2013 at 09:23 pm
Mr. Pointing says that an issues conference is unusual. The unusual step is called for because thisRead More project is highly unusual; it is unprecedented. This French-owned water company wants to implement its pet technology at our expense - it makes sense for the company because the project makes lots of money. There is information available that calls into question the "definitive" studies carried out by the water company. Of course they found that their technology was the best option - what a surprise! They have not made the case that they carried out a disinterested examination of the issues in the public interest. Yes there are still issues. Also, stop threatening us with increased costs from delay. First, it does not make sense and second, you are trying to bully us into accepting your proposal. That is one more sign that something is wrong in your proposal.
John Taggart June 13, 2013 at 08:08 am
An issues conference will be a wast of time and money. So many ' issues ' have been pulled out ofRead More thin air. The people who organized against the plant will just keep saying the same thing. No amount of info will be enough, no answer will be accepted. The issues conference will be a circus of endless questions, ideas, and demands. Haverstraw bay reclassified as drinking water will better protect it, provide an endless supply of water and finally help end the stereotype of the Hudson being polluted Recommend

There were no open meetings. I attended the April meeting and Mr. Lettre was directed by the TownRead More Board to return with more precise estimates and to include options for other upgrades. I have attended every meeting of the Town Board since that time and Mr. Lettre never returned in an open meeting. Mr. Borelli indicated that Mr. Lettre had addressed his concerns directly and privately. According to the Open Meetings Law, the deliberations of the Town Board are to be open and visible to the public. Private individual meetings or communications with members of the Town Board so as to avoid open deliberations flouts the intent of the Open Meetings Law. Mr. Gromack's statement of other meetings is inaccurate and, since it was specifically in response to a question about open meetings, dishonest. Mr. Borelli, shame on you for accepting a private communication and not standing by your guidance to Mr. Lettre that he was to come back to an open meeting of the Town Board.

Grace Anthony Zemsky June 10, 2013 at 09:00 am
The traffic from the nearby Palisades Parkway is more of a noise nuisance than the cicada chorus.Read More (We have triple-paned windows because of it.) There is something almost musical about the hum of the cicadas. Of course, it may bother me more if I lived in the "affected area" and heard it constantly. Upon entering this nearby neighborhood, the sound crescendos. And yet, it can't be heard a couple of streets away. The drone of locusts is more bothersome than these 17 year cicadas.
