Police Respond to Burglary, DWI

From the Office of Public Information, Town of Clarkstown Police:

Burglary:  On June 20, 2014 at 12"40 PM, the Clarkstown Police Department responded to a report of a burglary at Chili’s Restaurant in Nanuet. An employee stated that he observed a man in the corner of a storage closet located in the rear of the restaurant. When the suspect saw the employee, he ran from the closet, knocking the employee to the ground, causing a minor injury to the employee.

The male employee, 29, of New City, didn’t require medical attention for his injury. The suspect was followed by other employees and was apprehended by responding units just a short distance away from the restaurant. The suspect, John Allen, 50, of Spring Valley was arrested and transported to police headquarters. Allen was in possession of a glass pipe containing crack cocaine residue when he was searched. He was charged with Burglary 2nd (felony) and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th (misdemeanor). Allen was arraigned on June 21, 2014 in Clarkstown Justice Court. Bail was set at $5000 and he was transported to Rockland County Jail. He will return to court on June 25, 2014 at 1:30 PM.

Driving While Intoxicated: On Sunday June 22, 2014 at approximately 10:30 PM, the Clarkstown Police Department responded to a report of an erratic driver in Nanuet. The car was stopped on Rt. 59 and Middletown Rd. for a traffic infraction. The driver, Melissa Rau, 27, of Stony Point was interviewed and appeared to be intoxicated. Rau was administered field sobriety tests, which she failed. She was placed under arrest and transported to Clarkstown Police Headquarters where she refused to submit to a breathalyzer test. Rau was charged with driving while intoxicated (misdemeanor). Rau was arraigned at Clarkstown Justice Court on June 23, 2014. She was released on her own recognizance and will return to court on July 21, 2014 at 9:30 AM.
