A Spring Valley woman has surrendered to police in connection with an incident in which $1,600 worth of merchandise was destroyed at a Central Nyack liquor store, according to Clarkstown police.
Police said the Mahogany Morrow, 31, is charged with third-degree criminal mischief, a felony, for smashing liquor bottles at the Rite Buy Wine & Liquor, 318 Route 59, at 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 23. Police said Morrow surrendered to police after a video of the incident was shown on local newscasts.
"Something snapped in her head, she became crazy," said store owner Chris Giacopelli, recounting the incident. "Hopefully her turning herself in sends a message: don't mess around."
Clarkstown police said the store's security system—which consists of 16 cameras—captured video of Morrow swiping her arm across a counter with liquor bottles on it, sending them crashing to the floor. Police said the incident followed a dispute Morrow had with store employees.
"She had to get caught," Giacopelli said. "Her behavior is unexcused—there had to be consequences."
Morrow was released pending a Clarkstown Town Court hearing in New City. For more information, watch the above video.
