As years pass, it's important to always remember important and trying times and loved ones lost. It's been 11 years since the September 11 attacks.
On Sunday afternoon, the skies were sunny and a soft breeze blew by as the held a brief ceremony at the 9/11 Memorial behind .
On the marble slabs are the names of:
- John D'Allara
- David Ortiz
- David T. Wooley
- Myrna Maldonado
- Loretta Vero
- Laura Longing
- James J. Woods
- William Lum, Jr.
- Joseph R. Marchbanks
"(The memorial) it's in memory of their names. They were residents of the Nanuet community or they attended the Nanuet schools," said Vincent Pacella, Commissioner of the Nanuet Fire Department. “That's why we erected it it. The theme was to reflect and remember."
Pacella then recited two prayers, one being the old Irish blessing:
May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind always be at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
and rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May the Lord hold you in the palm of His hand.
