Residual Flooding On Route 59 In West Nyack

Route 59 in West Nyack remained closed late Saturday afternoon after being shut down for flooding during the overnight hours from Friday’s heavy rains. A van is stuck underneath the overpass in what looks to be several feet of water. Clarkstown Police have Route 59 shut between Shop Rite and Route 303.

The stretch of flooded roadway is on the eastbound side between the ramp to the Palisades Center and the car wash. The outer roadway of the Palisades Center adjacent to Route 59 is closed also due to minor flooding.

Eastbound traffic on Route 59 is backed up to Doscher Ave. It is being detoured off Route 59 into the Palisades Center to use the inner ring road to bypass the flooded area.  Westbound Route 59 traffic is pushed off at the entrance to Southbound Route 303.  There are Clarkstown Police cars blocking off Route 59 but no officers were seen directing traffic.

Sgt. Chris Brigando said there is no estimated time for re-opening the highway.

“It doesn’t look like it’s dissipating anytime soon,” he said.
